At the end of September Vitalik Buterin will release his first book, titled “Proof of Stake”, which will be a collection of his selected notes written over the past 10 years. Should you or should you not read this book? We’ve compiled three reasons why it’s still worth doing.

Why not?

There are many books written, good and bad. The scarcity of time and the oversupply of information make one cautious about the appearance of the next 100500th edition.

And before you close this page in your browser and forget about the next new book — read our short summary of why Vitalik’s book is worth your attention. We’ve put together three reasons to buy and read this book — choose to your liking.

Let’s grow together!

Three Reasons

An educational goal is officially stated in the creation of the book.

Buterin’s collected articles are not only about Ethereum (as you might think from the title) but also about the technological future of the society we live in:

“While many around him were focused on seeing the value of their tokens rise, he was working through the problems and possibilities of crafting an Internet-native world.”

Most of the material is quite accessible even for the less technically proficient reader; here Vitalik acts as a visionary of the ways of the Internet and blockchain technology. If you’re interested in our shared networked future or want to get to know Vitalik better as a thinker, this is a good chance to get his best articles in one piece in book form.

Another important reason for the release is charity.

Vitalik has promised to donate his share of the profits from the sale through Gitcoin Grants. Buyers, for their part, can also make voluntary donations, 90% of which will go to Gitcoin Grants and 10% to Seven Stories Press.

And finally, the third is a symbolic summation of the famous blockchain project. The book will be released on September 27, just two weeks after the Ethereum Merge. The book sums up the long development of Ethereum, from the ICO to the transition to PoS. Vitalik’s autographed or NFT-released book is a great opportunity to get a souvenir of this historic event, which may eventually become a special jewel in your geek collection.

What will be in this book?

The book is a collection of Vitalik’s selected essays that have been written over the past ten years. Only a few of the articles that will be included in the final release of the book are known: “On Free Speech,” “Prediction Markets: Tales from the Election,” and “Crypto Cities.” The Ethereum white paper is also included as an appendix.

As the publication date approaches, more details, as well as the ability to order, will be available on this official website. If you’re interested, some information on the book may appear in this thread, where Vitalik sometimes answers readers’ questions.
