Proposal to Address Solana Congestion Suggests Reward System by Ore Creator

Apr 17, 2024 at 05:06

The individual behind Ore, known as Hardhat Chad, emphasized that his aim with Ore is to establish a currency rather than develop testnet tools, clarifying that he is not seeking financial assistance from the foundation.

Hardhat Chad, the pseudonymous figure behind the Ore project, has put forward the idea that the Solana Foundation could introduce a reward system to encourage testnet activity.

This proposal follows a period of nearly a week during which the Solana network experienced congestion issues, resulting in a transaction failure rate as high as 75%.

On the X social platform, Hardhat Chad proposed that if the Solana Foundation wishes to motivate users to participate in testnet activities like testing new features or protocols, it should consider offering incentives in the form of SOL tokens.

Such incentives could inspire users to actively partake in testing, which in turn could enhance the platform’s performance and help identify potential issues prior to mainnet deployment.

Opinions within the community regarding Hardhat Chad’s suggestion varied. While some expressed support, others disagreed. For instance, one user, TheSoftwareJedi, disagreed, suggesting that Chad concentrate on developing his project first and demonstrate goodwill to the foundation.

The user recommended that Hardhat Chad apply for funding via a grant from the foundation but stressed the importance of maintaining autonomy from foundation incentives.

Nevertheless, Hardhat Chad reiterated that he is not seeking funds from the foundation, reaffirming that his objective for Ore is to establish a currency, not develop testnet tools. He is reassessing incentives to combat spam and questioning the necessity of prioritizing the creation of testnet spam bots.

This proposal comes on the heels of Hardhat Chad’s announcement via social media that an immediate halt to mining operations is crucial for the Solana network’s well-being and the stakeholders of Ore. He underscored the need for a revamped smart contract framework amidst recent network challenges.

This strategic maneuver also aligns with the project’s roadmap for Ore’s second version (v2), emphasizing a commitment to long-term sustainability.

Ore, a Solana-launched blockchain project, is exploring suitable distribution methods by utilizing a proof-of-work (PoW) token distribution mechanism. The project is experimenting with merging PoW’s security with Solana’s rapid transaction capabilities.

Since its inception, Ore’s activity has significantly contributed to Solana’s network congestion, affecting transaction scheduling and resulting in a high rate of failed transactions, particularly during the memecoin frenzy on the network.

However, Solana developers have released a mainnet beta update, v1.17.31, aimed at addressing the ongoing network congestion on the Solana blockchain.

This patch incorporates enhancements to mitigate some of the persistent network congestion, with further improvements slated for v1.18.
