For cryptocurrency investors, there is not a lot more disappointing than seeing your wallet or exchange showing an incorrect balance. Sometimes, you want to trade your cryptocurrency assets for other things, but an incorrect balance holds you back, especially with these high-volatility assets.

PancakeSwap

This could be due to technical issues, or you are overlooking the little details. Technical issues originating from wallets or exchanges themselves are the ones you cannot do much about, you just have to wait. But there are a few issues that arise due to a lack of attention to smaller details, and that is what we are here to help with.

You are getting an error of your BNB balance not showing or “Insufficient BNB” in PancakeSwap, as you have low slippage tolerance. The Insufficient error is common on PancakeSwap trades, but you can fix this issue quickly by tuning the Slippage Tolerance.

What is Slippage Tolerance?

The slippage tolerance makes sure you are not getting much less cryptocurrency from a transaction than expected. Slippage tolerance is very restrictive for transactions, since by default, it is only set at 0.5%.

Common Causes for «BNB Balance not showing» Error and Proposed Fixes

Make sure to keep 30% more tokens in the wallet than what you plan on trading, or attempt a smaller amount. If you do not, then send the tokens to multi-chain wallets or cryptocurrency exchanges, then send them back to wallets that support BEP-20 and that you can connect with PacakeSwap.

That said, the above is more of a preventative measure and/or one which you should put into practice once you’ve resolved the current “BNB Balance not showing” error you’re already faced with. Otherwise the common causes (and proposed fixes) are as follows:

Causes

Low Slippage Allowance

This error commonly happens with trading tokens on a trust wallet that has a low Slippage allowance.

Insufficient Token-Trading Allowance

The error can also happen when trading tokens with insufficient allowance, or when the wallet has a shortage of funds.

Excessive Limit-Swapping Attempt

This error might also occur when setting the spend allowance limit when first approving a contract, and then trying to swap in excess of the limit.

Internal System Error

Some wallets can send your tokens through a different chain, which will result in an error of “Not enough balance of BNB” / “BNB balance not displaying”. Either way, it all comes back down to the “Insufficient Balance” error being caused either by a lower slippage tolerance, or holding an incorrect version of your token. To get a bit more technical, the cause of the error is when you attempt to add or withdraw liquidity to the liquidity pool (LP) with insufficient amounts of token A or token B (one of the tokens in a pair).

It is still the same token, but some exchanges are able to operate only with a finite number of chains.

Other Possible Causes

When PancakeSwap says that your gas output is low, what PancakeSwap means is that your slippage tolerance is too low relative to the market value of the tokens you are trading. This problem is caused by tokens which are hardcoded into V1 of PancakeSwaps router in their contracts. This happens when you attempt to connect through browser extensions such as MetaMask or Binance Chain Wallet, but have not installed the extension.

Fixes

The above-detailed possible causes are naturally fixes as well, as you might be able to simply reverse the identified action you instituted, which led to the error. If it’s not possible to reverse your action, or if it was an action whose reversal doesn’t effectively reverse the occurrence of the error, here are some fixes you can try:

Increase Your Slippage Tolerance

To solve insufficient balance bugs in PancakeSwap, you should consider making an increase to your slippage tolerance, to around 12%. This will allow your tokens to be more easily exchanged. But keep in mind that the 12% is only an average number.

Slippage

There is no rule of thumb for dealing with slippage, though, so it may come across as a trial-and-error scenario. After all, there are a few factors that need to be considered when dealing with the tolerance for slippage. For example, you have to be aware of the price volatility, liquidity, and many other factors.

Incremental Increase

Crypto experts suggest increasing the slippage tolerance by 1 percent increments until you no longer get bugs. This gives you a chance to trade the coins for as much as you can. For you to modify your slippage tolerance, first, you need to open PancakeSwap on your device. That sounds obvious, but ask the support staff what they have to deal with and you may be utterly shocked at what users get up to…

Once done, you will have to choose which tokens you would like to exchange. After doing that, navigate to the “From” field and choose which Tokens you would like to use for swapping. Go to the “To” field and choose the token you would like to exchange for. You can now continue down to the exchange header, and when this is done, click the settings icon to open the PancakeSwap settings.

Tapping this icon will bring up a pop-up window containing three headings including Slippage Tolerance, Transaction Deadline, and Audio. Tap on Slippage tolerance and choose your desired value, close the pop-up, and try running the transaction again.

The “insufficient balance” error is often seen in PancakeSwap trades, but it is possible to fix this issue in no time by setting Slippage Tolerance. But, with all factors taken into account, changing the slippage tolerance is the only way to get rid of this error.

Switch to the Smart Chain BNB Version

Switch to the Smart Chain BNB Version

Make sure the BNB that you have in the wallet is the smartchain version of BNB, and not just regular BNB, which is the token from the BEP2. So, this balance that PancakeSwap shows you is your BNB Smart Chain, and you have to exchange your BNB for a BNB Smart Chain in order to be able to do your transactions. It is an easy process and it is done via smart contract from within the Trust Wallet itself.

Select a Compatible Network

There are several networks that you can select for PancakeSwap, and these networks can grow or shrink. If you would like to do transactions over BNBs smartchain network, be sure you choose the correct one. The Network icon is in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. Tap the Network icon to view a list of supported networks for PancakeSwap.

Make sure that the BNB Smart Chain is selected. If any other networks are selected, then your balance will appear to be 0.

Check Your Internet Connection

Internet Connection

Yes, we know, we know! However, sometimes, other technical issues can trigger this problem.

Make sure that you are connected to the Internet. Close and reopen your Trust Wallet. Retry after a period of one hour, if server or application technical issues occur.

Even the savviest users might forget checking for the aforementioned issues at times. If problems still occur after doing all of the above, please contact PancakeSwap and explain your issue to them.

Otherwise it is indeed frustrating to receive this message, as you cannot trade the tokens until the error is resolved. If all the solutions are still failing, you can do a direct emergency-withdraw on the contract to unstake the staked tokens. This would likely be the last resort though, as you might be panicking due to having tried to transact with pretty large effective figures.

If you fail, it is possible you are trying to send tokens that do not exist in your wallet (for example, trying to send tokens that are already assigned to an outstanding transaction).

Wrap-Up

For PancakeSwap users, there is very little more frustrating than seeing a wrong balance appear in your wallet or on your exchange. Sometimes, you want to exchange your crypto assets for something else, but the wrong balance holds you back, especially for those higher-volatility assets. This can happen because of technical issues, or because you are not paying attention to small details, including:

  •   Low Slippage Allowance.
  •   Insufficient Token-Trading Allowance.
  •   Excessive Limit-Swapping Attempt.
  •   Internal System Error, and
  •   Other Possible Causes, such as attempting to connect through browser extensions you have not installed.

The aforementioned possible causes are usually solvable by probably just undoing the identified actions that led to the bug. To solve insufficient-balance bugs in PancakeSwap, you should consider first trying to increase your sliding tolerance, so that it is about 12%. Then, move on to proposed solutions as detailed above, including:

  •   Incrementally Increasing Your Slippage.
  •   Switching to the Smart Chain BNB Version.
  •   Selecting a Compatible Network.
  •   Checking Your Internet Connection.
  •   Retrying Later.

Otherwise, getting this message is really disappointing, since you cannot exchange the tokens until the bug is fixed. If all solutions are still failing, then a direct emergency withdrawal on the contract is possible, in order to unstake staked tokens, but this should be the absolute last resort, after contacting PancakeSwap support.
