Skyweaver Vs Gods Unchained: Which is the better play-to-earn, trading card game?

We covered the Top 5 crypto games to earn money in 2022 and I immediately knew that I had to play Gods Unchained.

I gravitated towards Gods Unchained, a blockchain trading card game, which are my favorite kind of games. After playing Legends of Runeterra, Magic the Gathering, Hearthstone, and most recently, Skyweaver, I couldn’t resist. If it’s in the top 5, I must see what all the hype is about and share my experience with you all.

Moreover, let’s compare the new kid on the block with the OG of crypto TCGs.

In this article, Skyweaver goes head-to-head with Gods Unchained.

What is a TCG and CCG?

A TCG or tradeable card game is a type of strategy game that involves digital cards that can be ‘traded’ or exchanged for cryptocurrencies on marketplaces.

A CCG or collectible card game is like a TCG, the main difference being that you cannot trade all types of CCGs.

CCGs were first introduced in 1993 in the popular game Magic: The Gathering.

With the rise of blockchain technology, collectible card games have been decentralized to feature play-to-earn (P2E) mechanisms.  Players can now own their digital assets (TCGs, CCGs, NFTs, et al.), thanks to blockchain technology. It allows for digital scarcity and complete transparency, and players can sell or trade their cards for cryptocurrency.

Gods Unchained origin story

Gods Unchained, led by Chris Clay, former game director of Magic the Gathering Arena, was released back in 2019. It’s still one of the most popular projects in NFT gaming. When it was released, there were barely any NFT games. It was all the rage.

It’s a play-to-earn (P2E) NFT trading card game found on the Ethereum blockchain. The purpose of the game is to build a deck of ‘gods’ and battle other players.

The cards themselves can be traded on Immutable X Marketplace, where they thrive – over 13 million NFTs and 65,000 unique asset holders. Additionally, since the game’s creation, many players have traded over $25 million in assets. (Whistles)

The cards are set in decks, which add the NFT features to this game. Each card is unique, creating that ‘I need to have this’ approach to the in-game collectibles.

With its sustainable in-game economy and the players’ ability to have ownership of the game’s digital assets, Gods Unchained remains a top contender for noobs looking to venture into blockchain gaming.

Now with AAA titles such as Planet Mojo, The Harvest, Undead Blocks and Phantom Galaxies, as well as Skyweaver and Splinterlands as competitors, is Gods Unchained still worth playing nowadays?

Gods Unchained Gameplay

First, you need to download the PC version of the game to play. After the game updates and loads, the soundtrack swells to a ‘Mount Olympus,’ almost ‘Avenger’ type, cinematic experience. I was visibly excited. When you register, you receive free card packs to get started, but you need to update the game to start playing.

You play against the AI in the tutorial after assigned a god to ‘guide’ you through the basics of the game, and a power, ‘enrage.’ From here on out, the game plays out like most TCGs.

Players take turns playing their best hand.

The cards involve summoning creatures, casting spells, and equipping relics.

Your first win earns you 3 core packs with 5 cards each. Players can use these cards to create a deck and select a god/hero to ‘lead’ the deck.

Like Skyweaver, you earn more cards when playing in ‘Ranked’ mode. However, each victory in ‘Ranked’ mode/levels in Gods Unchained unpacks a different core pack. For instance, in Level 1, you can earn 1 War pack and 5 rare packs.

Every war cry by a champion, every scene, every animated sequence… everything about Gods Unchained is a work of art.

F2P and P2E

Gods Unchained is free-to-play and you can play-to-earn, unlike Skyweaver, where you win to earn.

Don’t forget to connect your wallet to claim your $GODS TOKEN. You can sign up for in-game competitions that have very strict guidelines to start earning.

 Full disclosure: As with every blockchain game, you will have to dedicate hours, days, weeks and months to truly earn something worthwhile.

The P2E concept in Gods Unchained still trumps that of Skyweaver. This is because you get to receive an award for every victory gained while playing in ranked mode on Gods Unchained.
