A single account for all metaverses: Why the emerging industry giants have joined forces?

Leading developers of blockchain games and metaworlds have decided to join together in a DAO for decentralized management of the process of technology unification. By working together, they aim to provide users of different game worlds with access to secure asset portals and the ability to use a single account across all worlds.

In a nutshell…

As part of the new OMA3 (Open Metaverse Alliance for Web3), the following decisions have been made:

  • Create interoperability portals to transfer data between worlds and a single account for all worlds.
  • Technologically, the interaction process of the working group is proposed to implement through DAO to de-bureaucratize decision-making procedures.
  • The universalization of all game metaworlds should have a synergistic effect, linking all worlds together.

We recall that instead of joint expansion and increased synergy, some game projects have chosen strategic fencing, trying, on the contrary, to isolate themselves as much as possible from competitors.

What is proposed to do?

According to the developers’ idea, using your avatar in any metaverse, you would be able to automatically get information about the NFT assets stored on different blockchains, as well as your transactions, reputation and contribution to the development of projects.

The Sandbox co-founder Sebastian Borget made an example of a digital avatar to illustrate the issues OMA3 is going to work on:

“Your Avatar can be more than just virtual representation, and also carries your reputation as anyone can see on-chain which NFTs you hold, earned, created or bought, the full history of transactions and as well hope the progression/actions you have contributed to throughout time.”

Who participates in the alliance?

OMA3 includes both giants Decentraland and MetaMetaverse, as well as smaller players: The Sandbox, Animoca Brands, Alien Worlds, Dapper Labs, Wivity, Upland, and several other developers of active Metaworlds.

This is the largest association of players in the industry, and this initiative has all the potential to succeed. Negotiations are underway to expand the membership, as well as to expand the issues that can be addressed in this massive initiative.

The OMA3 Alliance has identified its first and highest priority work goals: improving NFT standards, creating an indexing and search system for game worlds and lands, and developing portals. The alliance announcement promises to reveal more details about OMA3 during the NFT Global Summit in London at the very end of July.

It’s worth mentioning that in addition to OMA3 there are less ambitious initiatives to somehow standardize NFTs and simplify their exchange, such as standard ERC721i.
