From Justin Timberlake to Playboy: 9 celebs and 3 megabrands that joined The Sandbox

The Sandbox is an Ethereum blockchain-based virtual world in which players create, build, buy and sell digital assets in game form. After hitting a low of $0.70 in October 2021, the price of The Sandbox token, SAND, soared to a new all-time high of $6.69 in November. However, it’s crypto winter now, and the price is about $1.20.

Despite this, the virtual platform continues to attract celebrities and famous brands. Sandbox recently partnered with skateboarding legend Tony Hawk to build the largest skatepark in the Metaverse — LAND. Also, autograph NFTs will give customers extra access to Tony Hawk’s skatepark in the virtual world.

This month The Sandbox also partnered with Playboy. Together they will create a Playboy MetaMansion social game with collectible NFT items.

Here are more famous brands and people at the Sandbox

  • The project raised $11 million in funding in 2019. NBA superstar Kevin Durant has invested through his company, Thirty Five Ventures. Other investors are Orlando Bloom, Will Smith, Justin Timberlake, and Katy Perry.
  • Snoop Dogg was the first rapper to collaborate with Sandbox (2021). This year, he partnered with a gaming platform to sell The Snoopverse Early Access Pass, which gives customers access to experiences in The Snoopverse, his own branded world within The Sandbox platform. At launch, there were 5,000 Early Access Passes minted using blockchain technology.
  • This spring, Paris Hilton entered The Sandbox metaverse to create an avatar and space dedicated to the socialite. She also has a virtual island built within Roblox called the Paris World, which has a digital copy of her California home and closet. The metaverse star owns more than 1,500 NFTs, including the Bored Ape Yacht Club.
  • Swiss tennis star Stanislas Wawrinka has owned a private virtual island since early 2022.
  • Earlier this year, luxury fashion brand Gucci bought land on the digital world platform. Gucci and The Sandbox partnered to create an interactive fashion experience based on Vault, a “conceptual virtual space and meeting place inspired by childhood memories of the search for beauty.”
  • Renowned sports brand Adidas has also joined the Sandbox as a partner in its gaming metaverse in 2021. Adidas has acquired a large piece of digital land called adiVerse.
