Bitdeer, a prominent Bitcoin mining company, has introduced the “SEAL04” chip as part of its technology roadmap for the new Sealminer rig.

Enhancing Efficiency in Bitcoin Mining

Set for release in the second quarter of 2025, the SEAL04 chip aims to achieve energy efficiency as low as 5 joules per terahash (J/TH). This chip will power the fourth-generation Sealminer machine, which will be mass-produced and delivered starting in the fourth quarter of 2025. The Sealminer’s power consumption is optimized to 5.5–6 J/TH, significantly lower than the current average of 29 J/TH.

Addressing Power Consumption Challenges

Bitcoin mining has long faced issues related to high power consumption. To mitigate this, mining companies have increasingly shifted operations to greener grids in North America or sustainable off-grid locations following regulatory challenges in regions like Kazakhstan. Bitdeer’s introduction of the energy-efficient SEAL04 chip represents a significant technological advancement, promising improved mining performance, reduced power consumption, lower operating costs, and a smaller environmental footprint.

Transparency and Technological Advancements

Bitdeer’s technology roadmap aims to enhance transparency in the mining sector. It provides data analytics on machine capabilities, inventory, and purchasing behavior, managing miners’ expectations for technological advancements and equipment delivery.

Previous Developments and Industry Impact

Earlier in March, Bitdeer successfully tested the SEAL01 chip, a 4-nanometer Bitcoin mining chip with a power efficiency of 18.1 J/TH, used in the Sealminer A1 rig. The SEAL01 chip was designed using advanced 4-nanometer process technology, highlighting Bitdeer’s commitment to pioneering low-power Bitcoin mining solutions.

Strategic Partnerships and Investments

Recently, Tether entered into a subscription agreement with Bitdeer to purchase up to $150 million worth of shares in a private placement, as announced on May 31. Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino praised Bitdeer’s cutting-edge technologies and robust research and development efforts, calling it one of the strongest vertically integrated operators in the Bitcoin mining industry.

In May 2023, Bitdeer partnered with Bhutan’s sovereign investment arm, Druk Holding and Investments (DHI), to establish eco-friendly and carbon-free digital asset mining operations in Bhutan.

Bitdeer’s SEAL04 chip marks a significant step forward in making Bitcoin mining more sustainable and cost-effective, reflecting the company’s ongoing commitment to innovation in the cryptocurrency mining industry. Cointelegraph has reached out to Bitdeer for more information on the SEAL04 chip and is awaiting a response.
